WarlordArenas

Pick three heroes. Fight your way across the map. Beat your rival in the final battle.

Part RPG, part MOBA, with three heroes under your command instead of one. On iPhone and iPad, in matches of about ten minutes.

A match on iPhone, four seconds in: three heroes stand in their base on Crossroads. Their portraits are on the left; the clock, the camps and the boss's countdown along the top; the map and the enemy party on the right; abilities at the bottom right.

The game

How a match plays.

You and your rival each lead three heroes across the same map, in real time. Your heroes fight and cast their spells on their own. You decide where they go, what they take on, and when to use their ultimates.

  1. Before the fight

    Choose your three.

Every match offers ten champions: tanks, fighters, rogues, wizards and healers. You each ban one, then take turns picking until you both have three.

A Tower Knight to hold the line, a Ninja to finish off the wounded, a Goblin Shaman to keep everyone standing. Or whatever the pool hands you.

The draft screen: ten champions in five columns, tank, fighter, rogue, wizard and healer. The Viking Berserker leads, and both sides' three picks show along the bottom beside the Fight button.
The draft. Ten champions, three picks each.
  2. The first minutes

    Clear the camps.

Monsters hold the map: goblin war bands, wolf packs, barrows full of the dead. Every camp you clear pays out in gold and experience, the tough ones drop loot, and the mix changes from match to match.

The ring around each camp tells you how it would go. Green is easy, orange is a fight, and red will probably kill you, for now.

Three heroes trade blows with a camp's monsters on a dirt road between the trees, health bars over every head.
Crossroads. A camp fight on the road.
  3. 6:30

    Take down the boss.

Six and a half minutes in, the boss wakes. On Crossroads it's the Goblin Warchief. On Blackspire, a burned citadel, it's a dragon, and it doesn't stay on its perch.

Bring it down and your heroes carry its power into the final battle, and one of them can claim the Warlord's Crown it drops. Get it wrong and you've handed both to your rival.

Blackspire's dragon, awake in its court, breathes fire on the Tower Knight while the Viking Berserker hacks at its flank and the Battlemage casts from behind.
Blackspire. The dragon, awake and breathing fire.
  4. Between fights

    Gear up.

Spend your gold at the shop by your base or the merchants out on the map, and grab whatever the camps drop. Thornmail, a Tower Shield, Battle Drums, a Bloodfang Blade: build each hero for the fight you see coming.

The Quartermaster's shop open mid-match, buying for one of three heroes: Iron Sword, Chain Mail, Vitality Charm and Swift Boots, with prices.
    The Quartermaster. Your base's shop.

The end

The arena closes in.

When the last camp falls, or at nine minutes, the arena starts to shrink. Once it has closed, the fallen stay down.

Your three against their three, with everything you've earned. One fight decides it.
